Grace Irene Girala

Grace Irene Hansen Girala of Houston, Texas passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the age of 103. She was born on July 28, 1920, on Fishers Long Island, New York in Suffolk County in the town of Southold where she grew up.

She worked in the offices of Pitney Bowes and then joined the US Naval Service in 1944 and served as a Yeoman Third Class. While in the Navy she met and married Anthony S. Girala, who was also serving in the Navy. Once discharged from the Navy they moved to Houston, Texas in 1946 to begin a long and fulfilling life together. She was married to Anthony for 66 years before being preceded in death by her loving husband. She was a devoted wife and homemaker raising a family of four children.

She is survived by their children Carol Linda Girala Croom, Michael A Girala, wife, Linda, Sandra Sue Girala Matthews and William R Girala, wife, Peggy, along with 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Grace was an avid bingo player, playing most every day of the week where she made many lifelong friends. She enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas and Louisiana casinos with family members. She enjoyed playing dominos, making jigsaw puzzles, and doing word search books.

The family would like to thank the staff at Laurel Glen of Sugar Land for the care and compassion they showed Grace in her final four years.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation with the family at Forest Park Funeral Home at 6900 Lawndale on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, from 5-8pm with a rosary beginning at 6:30pm.

A private family service and interment to follow at Forest Park Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at 10am. Following the services the family will gather for a private celebration honoring Grace.
