

Gus J. Pullen Jr. of Houston, Texas, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the age of 82. He was born on June 25, 1943, in Houston, Texas, where he grew up and built a wonderful life rooted in family, friends, and the outdoors.
Gus attended Bellaire High School and Sam Houston State University before beginning his career in home building working alongside his father, Gus J. Pullen Sr., in the family business, Castle Homes. After taking over the business, he continued the tradition under the name Pullen Homes, and later worked as a general contractor and owned Tricor Builders. He took pride in his commercial construction work and the family homes he built for others.
Gus will be remembered for his love of the outdoors and the time he spent with family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He grew up hunting with his father and carried that tradition throughout his life, especially on family property in Jewett, Texas, where many days were spent deer hunting. He also cherished time in Angleton at Bastrop Bayou, enjoying saltwater fishing and spending time with family and friends. Whether it was deer season, bird hunting, or a day on the boat, those were the places he felt most at home. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Helen, and spending time with his grandchildren, Lainey and Brody. He had a great sense of humor, told great stories, and had a genuine enjoyment of life that will be remembered by those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Pullen; his father, Gus J. Pullen Sr.; and his sister, Billie Burke.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Pullen; his son, Gus J. Pullen III; his daughter-in-law, Angie Pullen; and his grandchildren, Lainey Pullen and Brody Pullen.
A viewing and funeral service will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, Thursday, April 30. 2026 at 6900 Lawndale Ave., Houston, TX 77023. The viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a graveside service at 12:00 p.m.
