On November 14, 1936 in Huttig, Arkansas Gussie Lee Easter was born to Agusta “Gussie” Easter and Annie B. Wilson. Named after her father, she was the oldest of five children: Willie B, Delores, Jo Nathan and John.
As a child Gussie moved to various places like Detroit, Michigan but would ultimately spend the majority of her childhood in rural Louisiana.
Gussie graduated high school from the Louisiana Public School System, Class of 1954. In 1957, Gussie moved and settled down in Houston, Texas with her mother and sister, Willie B. Moore.
In Houston, she worked in housekeeping at Park Plaza Hospital. Gussie was also a cosmetologist and took great pride in her work. She often worked two jobs to support her family. Gussie had five children: Kenneth, Charetta, Mary, Julia, and Sharon Easter; Eight Grandchildren: Larry, Shamichael, Damon, Nikkie, Hope, Treykia, Markquill, and Treena. Thirteen Great Grandchildren: Tre’Von, David, Elijah, Teyah, Nicolas, Kameron, Nikaya, Jasani, Destiny, Miya, Mark, Bryan and Alayah; Two Great-Great Grandchildren: Za’Cari and Christiana.
Gussie was a devoted member of Southwest Central Church of Christ for more than 20 years. Her service and dedication to the community exemplifies honor and strength. Gussie Lee Easter embodied mercy and was a visible form of love to everyone she encountered.
