Harold Houston Ford was born August 24, 1913 in Converse, LA to Lawrence and Martha Strother Ford. His family moved to Texas in the 1920’s. Mr. Ford was a WWII Veteran, wounded in battle in Italy. He returned to Houston after the war, he married and raised 3 sons. Mr. Ford was a lifelong Baptist and deacon of the Recreation Acres Baptist Church for over 50 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Johnnie Mae Pierce Ford, mother of his children, wife, Grace Lee Mize Carr Ford; brothers, Larry and Harry; sisters, Trudy and Cristelle; stepson, Jabe Carr and numerous brothers and sisters –in-law and nephews.
He is survived by his sons and wives; Mike and Barbara of Zavalla; James and Laurie of Houston and George and Verlissa of Gainsville, Florida; grandchildren, Amanda Ford Sanders and husband, Marlon of Zavalla; Robert Houston Ford of Crystal Beach; Katie Ford and husband, John Mason of Austin; Kerrie Ford of Washington D.C.; great-grandchildren, Summer Donahoe and husband, Triston and Elizabeth Carrell all of Zavalla; along with great-greatgrandson, Elijah Donahoe; stepdaughter, Dorothy Andrews and her husband, Howard of Houston and step-son, Lonnie Carr and wife, Alice of Oyster Creek as well as numerous step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express our great love and appreciation to his caregiver, Daphne Cross and to her family for sharing her with us. She and the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice greatly eased Mr. Ford’s burden for the last 3+ years.
