Born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1924, he grew up crossing this nation, from Quincy, Mass, to Pensacola, FL, to San Diego, CA, to Corpus Christi, TX, where he met his beloved wife Bernice, who went home to the Lord in 2007 after 59 years of marriage. Together they enjoyed life, and are survived by two children, Ashley Kay Foster, with husband John, and David Edmund Summers, three granddaughters, Summer, Heather, and Ginger, and their husbands, and three great grandsons, Dylan, Evan, and Oliver. He was preceded in death by son Harold Vance Summers, Jr.
Harold served his country during WW II as a Naval Aviator in the Pacific. He loved to fly, and stayed in the Naval Reserves, retiring as a Lt. Commander in 1984.
After the war, Harold attended Texas A&M University, graduating as a petroleum engineer in 1952. His working career spanned the Texas oil industry, first with Standard Oil of Texas, working in west Texas and then on the Gulf coast. He then worked for Cosden Petroleum Co, in Big Spring, TX. as a Reserves Reservoir Engineer. After Cosden was acquired by American Petrofina, Harold continued with them in Big Spring, and then later in Dallas. He returned to the coast to work for Ashland Exploration Inc., as the Senior Engineer in the U.S. Offshore Frontier Region. Harold finished his career with Republic Bank of Texas as Vice President of their oil field lending department.
Harold's family often kidded him saying he liked fast planes, fast cars, and slow boats. He so enjoyed sailing his 30 ft. ketch down the Texas coast. Many happy hours were spent on the water with his family.
We miss him dearly, but know that he is with his Heavenly Father and loved ones who have gone before.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 12 in the Chapel of Angels at Forest Park Lawndale, Houston, TX.
