Hazel S. Hurley

Hazel Stella Haefs Hurley, age 92, passed away Monday, August 26, 2013. She was born to Charles and Stella (Skierka) Haefs on July 9, 1921, in Elgin, Oregon. She met and married Donald Ray Hurley while attending San Jose Bible College in California. They first served together on the mission field at Jamaica Christian Mission and went on to pastor Churches of Christ in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada; South Hutchinson, Kansas; Holyoke, Colorado and Julesburg, Colorado. She supported efforts in Discipleship Training Centers from 1970 through 1985 in Texas and Kansas.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Donald Hurley; sons, Stephen and Phillip; parents, Charles and Stella Haefs; and sisters, Jeri, Berniece and Lillian. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Price and husband Ed, and Sharon Young and husband Robert; six grandchildren, Joey, Sherry, Melissa, Lysa, Christopher, and Rebecca; ten great-grandchildren, Bobby, Michael, Jordan, Vinnie, Shaelyn, Valentina, Matias, Levi, Sophia, and Stella (her namesake); and sister Alice. She was a devoted wife, mother, and missionary in the lives of many. Her prayers and positive affirmations will be missed by all.

Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2013 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home, with the Celebration of Life Funeral Service to follow at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Earthman Resthaven. The Graveside service will be the same day at 4:00 p.m., at Mission Park Cemetery, 1700 S.E. Military Dr., San Antonio, Texas 78214.
