OBITUARY

Hazel Marie Schumacher

Hazel M Schumacher, born in Houston, January 6, 1923, went to join the Lord on January 16 at age 90. She attended Jeff Davis High School-Houston and University of Texas-Austin. Hazel married Robert Schumacher in 1946, moved to Minneapolis, and attended University of Minnesota while working for Honeywell. She represented Honeywell in TV news spots and demonstrated various Honeywell products at trade shows before she retired after 38 years with Honeywell as Manager of Employee Retirement Benefits and began substitute teaching at elementary schools. Hazel loved golf and took lessons with the pros at the Golf Academy in Madison, WI and won numerous trophies. In 1996, Hazel moved back to Houston, joined Second Baptist Church, participated in the church’s “Moving On” and “Clift Notes Bible Study” groups, and volunteered at Memorial Herman Hospital-Memorial City where she logged over 1,000 volunteer hours. The family wishes to thank the loving caregivers at The Hampton at Spring Shadows and the ladies of Daughters and Eye Elder Care for helping Hazel in her final days. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years-Bob; sister-Melba; brother-Chris; and dear friend-Maxine Key. She is survived by her sister-Myra; 3 nieces; 3 nephews; 7 grand nieces; and 4 grand nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 10:00am at Heights Funeral Home. Rev. Matt Miller of Second Baptist church will officiate the service. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.

My friend Phyllis Ellis was friends with Hazel for years & years. Phyllis just had me look her up to find out if she could get in touch & sadly found she's no longer with us. Phyllis has told me many stories of Hazel and her husband and Phyllis and her husband, Al getting together, watching wrestling of all things!:-) our hearts and prayers are with you & yours

Myra and Family, My heart goes out to you during this difficult time. Hazel was such a wonderful lady, terrific neighbor and close friend of the family for almost 60 years. She will be deeply missed.
