

Born February 17, 1932, in Houston, Texas, she was the daughter of Theodore and Agnes Osterhaus. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother. Her life was centered on faith, family, and quiet service to those she loved. Helen was an Incarnate Word Academy graduate and coached the girls basketball team and taught Physical Education at All Saints Catholic School.
She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband, Francis Louis Matula, her beloved daughters Sandra Louise Matula Winzig, Eilene Frances Matula Ferguson and grandson Gregory Allen Winzig, and 6 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Lorraine Matula; Kathryn Matula Caldwell, Michael Matula and wife Mary, Thomas Matula, and Cheryl Matula Cherowitz and husband John, and grandchildren, Paul Winzig, Steven Ferguson, Kelley Matula Beakley, Daniel Ferguson, Chris Caldwell, Aaron Matula, Jennifer Caldwell Cardenas, Nickolas Caldwell and Matthew Matula, and 11 great grandchildren, extended family & friends who will cherish her memory.
She was known for her strength, warmth, and steady presence. Whether preparing meals, caring for her home, or offering encouragement to those around her, she expressed love through action. Her faith sustained her throughout her life and was a source of comfort for her family.
In her later years, she was cared for with great love by her family. She faced her final days with dignity and humor, surrounded by prayer and the presence of those who loved her most.
The family will receive family and friends for visitation on Monday, March 2, 2026, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. with a Rosary from 7:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at All Saints Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to St Jude, or All Saints Catholic Church.
Her memory will remain a blessing to all who have known her.
