Henrietta Poulter Warren of Houston, Texas passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024 at the age of 101. She was born on March 7,1922 in Wichita, Kansas. She later moved to parts of Oklahoma and Texas, eventually landing in Houston where she met and married Buddie.
Buddie and Henrietta went on to open and operate Warren’s Garage in Houston and raise their two sons. She was the mathematical and accounting brain behind the mechanic for many years until they built on a ranch in Ledbetter, Texas where they eventually moved full time after Paul and Mike were grown.
Having such a large, active group of grandchildren, Henrietta was known as “Nanny” for more than half of her life. Adults, teenagers, and children knew Nanny and were always welcomed at “The Farm” in Ledbetter from the ‘70s through the ‘80s and into the early 90’s. If there was a meal to be made, a tree to climb, or a tank to be fished, Nanny was in the thick of it providing for all “her people”. Those who knew Nanny loved her as their own grandmother and knew she would be in the middle of the action as much as possible. If family was involved near or far, Henrietta could be found giving her full, undivided support and her grandchildren knew her answer most of the time would be “Yes!” at any request!
She was actively involved in missions work through First United Methodist Church, Houston in Central and South America and supported their mission work in Cuba for many years. Additionally, Henrietta was passionate about any programs such as World Vision or Heifer International that worked to educate, teach skills, and feed communities all around the world. After moving back to Houston in the late 1990s, her updates on “what good she knew” many times included statements like, “Well, I’m busy helping this youngin ’in Africa learn to sew,” or “I’ve just been busy making sure these girls in Ethiopia have school supplies and food.” The most consistent and vital part of Henrietta’s life was to always be involved in a church community to the best of her ability no matter where she lived. She could always be found in churches and services singing her praises to the Lord with all her enthusiasm.
Henrietta is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Eunice Poulter, husband, Buddie Warren, brothers John Poulter, William (Bill) Poulter and Dean Poulter, sons Paul Warren and F. Michael (Mike) Warren, and grandson Andrew (Andy) Warren.
She is survived by her daughters-in-law, Betty Warren and Cindy Warren, her grandchildren, Micah Warren Essery and husband Shaun Essery, Paul Alexander (Alec) Warren and wife Robynne Warren, Kristin Warren Weaver and husband Brian Weaver, Ashlie Warren Peters and husband Tim Peters, Joanna Warren Liska and husband Randall Liska, great-grandchildren Taylor Seymour, Christian Seymour, Nicholas Seymour, Aiden Warren, Tristan Warren, Allison Weaver, Megan Weaver, Paloma Peters, Calvin Peters, Nolan Peters, Ryan Liska, Audrey Liska, great-great-grandchildren Dawson McAllister and Ellory McAllister along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
