

Henry “ Hank” Russell Scanlan passed away Monday, July 24, 2017 in Houston, Texas surrounded by family and friends. Hank fought courageous battles against a number of major ailments including heart disease, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a lung transplant and finally succumbed to squamous cell cancer.
Hank was born October 23, 1947 in Houston Texas. He was raised by his parents, Kenneth Russell Scanlan and Dorris Lucille Scanlan (nee Ross) in Bellaire, TX. Hank attended Bellaire High School and graduated in 1966. He began college at Sam Houston State University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. He was a proud Pike.After two years at Sam Houston State, Hank enlisted in the United States Air Force. Hank began his Air Force career as a raw recruit and was honorably discharged four years later as a staff sergeant. He served his country with top-secret clearance.Hank then returned to Texas and worked for a short time on the Houston ship channel as a Petroleum Inspector for W. B. Bransom Company before relocating to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He began a long career with IBM and completed his degree in finance and information systems at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. It was in Wisconsin where he met Neda Sunarich – soon to become his wife of almost 42 years. Hank and Neda were married August 10, 1975. After marriage they returned to Houston where their son Jacob Russell Scanlan was born. Hank began his notable IT career at a number of well-known companies – IBM, Oracle, Arthur Andersen & Co. and Weatherford International. Hank was predeceased by his mother, Dorris Scanlan and his son Jacob Scanlan. He is survived by his wife, Neda Scanlan, his father, Kenneth Russell Scanlan, and his two canine companions Pepper and Donut as well as his many beloved cousins, family and friends.
A viewing will be held at Forest Park Lawndale, located at 6900 Lawndale Avenue in Houston on Friday, July 28th from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at Forest Park Lawndale on Saturday, July 29th at 10:00 am followed by interment.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jacob Scanlan Fund at the Menil Collection (1500 Barnard, Houston, TX 77006) or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Association (1525 Lakeville Drive, Kingwood, TX 77339).
