

Herbert Paul Zoch was born in Winchester, Texas on Wednesday, December 3, 1919 to parents, Emil Carl Zoch and Lydia Louise (Kasper) Zoch. He passed away in Houston, Texas on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the age of 96. He was baptized December 14, 1919 and confirmed March 4, 1934 at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Winchester, Texas.
Herbert proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He married his sweetheart, Lorine Irene Krause, on December 26, 1943 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas. Herbert was a graduate from the University of Houston with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Throughout his career, he held a variety of positions that required his residency in many places such as San Antonio, Texas; Denver, Colorado; Midland, Michigan; Pasadena, Texas; and Houston, Texas, where he retired from Dow Chemical after 30 years as a Mechanical Engineer. He and Lorine were longtime, active members of St. Mark Lutheran Church.
Herbert’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, as well as gardening, working in his shop, film/photography, travel, and the Houston Astros. Everyone will remember that he always had a smile on his face.
Herbert is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Lorine Zoch, and his loving children are Dr. Robert and Diana Zoch of Austin, Kathryn and Dexter Wright of Pasadena, Shirley and Larry Melcher of Houston, Cynthia and David Carter of Austin. Also, his surviving grandchildren are Tammy and Matthew Nixon, Richard and Cari Zoch, Laura and Robert Leal, Matt Melcher, Jonathan and Ashlee Zoch, Michael and Britni Zoch, Brittany and David Jones, and Sarah Carter. His great-grandchildren are Richard Nixon and Laurel Zoch. He also has many beloved nieces, nephews, caring friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Lydia Zoch, and his siblings and their spouses: Eldor and Clara Zoch, Edna and Bill Lehman, Helmuth and Dessie Zoch, Fred and Edith Zoch, Erwin and Alice Zoch, Mildred and Walter Killian, Lillian and Klem Kocurek; and his grandson, Damon Wright.
Family and friends gathered for a visitation from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 6th at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 7th in the sanctuary of St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1515 Hillendahl, with The Reverend Scott Heitshusen officiating. Following the Interment service at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, all were invited to return to the church and share in fellowship with the family at a lunch reception.
Honored to serve as Pallbearers were: grandsons, Richard Zoch, Matt Melcher, Jonathan Zoch, Michael Zoch; great grandson, Richard Nixon; grandsons-in-law, Matthew Nixon, Robert Leal, and David Jones.
