Hilda Sanchez Rios, a cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully at her home in Houston, Texas, on July 17, 2026, at the age of 89. Born in Machu Picchu, Peru, Hilda’s journey began in humble circumstances, but her strength and resilience defined her life. She emigrated from Peru to Houston in 1960 and married Elicendo G. Rios, a dedicated mechanic, in 1962.
Hilda was the heart and soul of her family, a devoted mother to her surviving children, Corina Aguilar and Virginia Perez. She was predeceased by her husband and three of her children. Known for her indomitable spirit, she was a constant source of support, prayer, and honest guidance to all who knew her. She found joy in the simple pleasures of home, her love for game shows like Family Feud and The Price is Right, and her legendary cooking—especially her tamales. She will be remembered for her deep faith, her unwavering generosity, and her belief in living an authentic, independent life.
She leaves behind a loving legacy in her children, grandchildren (Susan, Jesus, Rogelio, Marcos, Brenda, Belinda, Elaine, and Eddie Alex), and great-grandchildren (Daniel, Christopher, Samantha, Aryana, Luke, Austin, Lily, and Kyana). She will be deeply missed.
