Hollis Hightower

Hollis was born on July 29, 1941, to the late Mr. Hollis Turner and Mrs. Hattie Mae Hightower, Sr. in Kerens, Texas. The family later moved to Houston and resided in the Independent Heights. Hollis attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Because of his love for cars he began his early employment with the then well-known Stone Service Station and was employed there for almost twenty years. He then became self-employed as a landscaper and later an independent equipment and bottling recycler. He grew up and was a member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church and later became a trustee.

He married the late Mrs. Betty Hightower and helped her raise four boys: Special son, Jonathan, Marco, Jordan, and Brandell “Cheke” Mann (deceased).

After the death of Mrs. Betty, through divine circumstances, Hollis reunited with and married his sweetheart of the past, Mrs. Bertha M. Dinkins. This was the beginning of a grand life experience for both of them.

Hollis in his later years started fellowshipping with Yale Street Baptist Church and Pastor T. Leon Preston II, who he met at his 80th birthday party. He attended until his health failed.

Beside his parents, Hollis is preceded in death by one son, Hollis III, and beloved granddaughter, Sugar.

Hollis leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Mrs. Bertha Dinkins Hightower, an aunt, Mrs. Fannie Alexander, surviving sons, 10 grandsons, 4 granddaughters, sister-in-law Mrs. Carol Dixon (James Sr.), special daughter, Dr. Cari Valita Barnes, grandson, Terence (Lynn) Barnes (Brooklyn, N.Y), granddaughter, Caterra Mallett, special ‘other sons’ Kenneth Babineaux and Eric McAdams.

A visitation will be held at Yale Street Baptist Church, located at 4315 Yale St, Houston, TX 77018, on February 6, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

The Celebration of Life will follow at the same location from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.

The committal service will take place at Brookside Memorial Park, located at 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039, on February 6, 2026, from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm.
