

Hortencia was born on August 15, 1935, in Houston, Texas, to Jesus and Elodia Tello. She lived a life full of love, faith, and dedication to her family. She will be remembered for her strength, faith, and resilience.
She was a devoted Catholic and a longtime parishioner of Holy Name Catholic Church, where her faith and friendships brought her great joy. After many years of hard work, she retired from the City of Houston in 2000. In her later years, she cherished time with her family and remained active in senior activities, continuing to live a life full of faith, love, and connection.
Hortencia leaves behind her children, Arthur Flores, Ernest Flores and his wife Leonor, and Norma Flores, who will continue to carry her legacy of love and strength. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Valdivia. She is also survived by her brothers, Roy Tello and Armando Tello.
She was blessed with six grandchildren: Andrew, Joe Angel, Yvonne, Stephanie, Maria, and Jesse; ten great-grandchildren: Angel Rene, Isabella, Mia, Airyanna, Alexia, Dominic, Aubrey, Olivia, Amira, and Caitlin; and two great-great-grandchildren: Angel Rene Jr. and Elias.
Hortencia had a gift for bringing her family together—whether through her delicious home-cooked meals, her prayers, or her quiet strength. She led by example, showing through hard work, faith, and resilience how to overcome life’s challenges and build a lasting foundation for her family.
Services to honor her life will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd., Houston, TX 77008, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Holy Name Catholic Church, 1920 Marion St., Houston, TX 77009, at 10:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale St., Houston, TX 77023.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who played a part in supporting Hortencia throughout her recovery journey. A special thank you is extended to her longtime friend, Mindy Alegria, for her unwavering care and friendship. The family is also deeply appreciative of the many friends who offered kindness, support, and compassion during this time.
Though she may no longer be with us in person, Hortencia will live on forever in our hearts.
