Ida Mae Jones

Ida Mae Jones passed away peacefully Saturday, January 12, 2019 at home in Houston, Texas. Ida was born in Willis, Texas to Martha Pollard and Nathaniel Miles. She was the youngest of eight children. At a young age, Ida was involved in a near fatal accident that made her the strong and determined women she had become. Ida was a sports enthusiast, but her passion was playing basketball and spending time with her family. Ida married Connie Jack Jones in September 1941 and was married for over 30 years before his untimely death. Ida had four children, Robert Arthur, Laverne Etta, Jo Ella and Kenneth Ray. Ida worked as a house keeper and nanny until she was 65 years old. In retirement Ida grew to love gardening, bowling and making quilts. She was also an active grandmother of 7 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Ida was extremely involved in her community and church as well. Ida has been a member of 5th Ward Church of Christ since the early 1940’s. Ida is survived by daughters Laverne Myles and Jo Ella Hence; grandchildren Erika Myles Rodriguez and husband Oscar, Ellen Myles, Kennethia Williams and husband Mario, Reginald Hence and wife Christina, Regina Hence, Stephani Davis and husband Michael, Keqwon Palm and wife Carmen, and Taneka Williams Mikelionis and husband Todd; great-grandchildren Tyler, Tristian, Tatum, Kyan, Brendan, Hunter, Ethan, Zoe, Chole, Sicily, Jazmin, Keqwon Jr., Lex, Makayala, Nykko, Tess, Reed and many other family and friends.
