Jacqueline (Jackie) Holley Kornmayer , cherished wife, mother and grandmother, died Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the age of 83. A native of Houston, she was born August 6, 1930 to Porter J. and Mary Jane Holley. Jackie and her brother, James Atmar, were raised in southeast Houston and attended Garden Villas Elementary School and Junior High School. A graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School Class of 1948, Jackie was active in numerous organizations but none were more important to her than her membership in the Scottish Brigade. After graduation she went to work for Humble Oil Company (now Exxon/Mobil). On March 30, 1951 Jackie married Theodore (Ted) Joseph Kornmayer. Jackie was a dynamic and energetic person who took pleasure in a long career as an administrative manager and bookkeeper for local independent oil operators, including a long standing working relationship and friendship with the Roshton family. Her work kept her busy and engaged and she reluctantly retired six months ago as her health deteriorated. Her commanding presence, particularly among her family and close friends, earned her the nickname "General Jackie". She was organized and always on the go enjoying outings with the "lunch bunch" many of whom were childhood friends from Garden Villas and high school days. Jackie liked to travel and accompanied her husband, Ted, on many of his business trips across the U.S. and overseas. In addition, Jackie was active in the women's group of the China Burma India Veteran's Association during Ted's long association with CBI. She was an excellent cook and prided herself on shopping for the freshest ingredients, often driving to Kemah or Galveston to buy shrimp and crabs right off of the boats. Family functions at her house were centered around delicious dishes prepared and served by Jackie. She was deeply loved by her family and will be fondly remembered and missed by the many friends and acquaintances she made throughout her long life. Jackie is survived by husband Ted, children Chris Kornmayer (Unnur), Karen Phelps (Jack), and Kim Kornmayer. She also leaves behind six grandchildren; Kristjan, Pall, Anna, Holley, Conner and Colton, and sisters-in-law Mary Sue Wheeler and Anne Holley. The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Carl Dahlberg for his care and kindness as well as the doctors and nurses who cared for her at the Methodist Cancer Center. Friends and family are cordially invited to visitation with the family from 5 until 8 PM on Friday, November 8th in the Chapel at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 1 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery and Funeral Home followed by a gravesite service. Pallbearers are: Kristjan Kornmayer, Pall Kornmayer, Conner Kornmayer, Jack Phelps, Byron Richards and Vincent Canzoneri. In lieu of customary remembrances, and for those desiring, the family requests that contributions in memory of Jackie Kornmayer be directed to the American Cancer Society to support the fight against lung cancer.
