

Jackie was born on May 6, 1926 in Brenham, Texas. After graduating from Brenham High School, she moved to Houston where she met her husband of 52 years, W.F. “Smitty” Smith. They had one child, Susie Smith Whisnant.
Jackie always loved volunteering. She was given a PTA Lifetime Membership for her years of service. When her husband passed away in 1999, she started going to Magnum Howell Community Center where she went almost every day for 20 years. She was chosen as Regional Volunteer of the Year in 2011. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church Downtown for over 70 years where she organized the Flowers for the Altar for many years.
She spent the last 3 years of her life at Wood Glen Court Assisted Living where she was frequently seen giving her grand dog Ziva, a ride on her walker.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, W. F. “Smitty” Smith, sisters Bernadine Coats and Irma Little, and brother Jeff Sommer.
She is survived by her daughter Susie Whisnant, son-in-law John Whisnant, grandson Daniel, and her grand dog Ziva.
