He was born in Kilmichael, Mississippi on June 20, 1925 to Preston and Jessie Brooks
James served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He retired from Western Electric. James was an active and faithful member of Garden Villas Methodist Church for many years.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Leonora Hill Brooks and his son, James Michael Brooks, sister Mary Lucille Broocks and husband Travis Broocks, sister Eloise Wimberly and husband Jack Wimberly.
He is survived by daughter, Sandy Jones and husband Scott Jones, grandson Brian Jones and wife Allison Jones, grandson Garrett Jones, sister Donna McKinney and husband Tommy McKinney and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to a charity of choice
Funeral services will be at Forest Park Lawndale in the Colonial Chapel on Wednesday 10/31/18 with visitation at 12:00 pm and services at 1:00 pm.
