

James David (J.D.) Banes was born in Louisiana on April 17, 1928. He grew up in Natchitoches, LA. There he played all sports in high school and was a bit of a local sports hero. After graduation he married Estelle Raborn and they moved to
Houston, where Estelle taught school and J.D worked for Houston Light and Power Company. Mr. Banes served his country in the army from May 1952 until April 1954. He was stationed in Japan and Korea. He returned to work for Houston Light
and Power Company until he retired after 40 years of service. Mr. and Mrs. Banes purchased a farm/ranch in the Groveton area where they spent many weekends and as much time as their work would allow. There they became part of the community and considered their friends and neighbors as their extended family.
Mr. Banes passed away June 16, 2011 at his home in Houston. He was preceded in death by his father Louis Banes, his mother Evie Freeman Banes and his only sister Ruby Timberlake. His wife Estelle passed away in 2005. He is survived by sister-in-law, Pearl Raborn; nephews: David Depew and his wife Betty of Midland, Robert Raborn Jr. and his wife Margie of Columbus, Gene Raborn and his wife Mary of Houston and his one niece Polly Boe and her husband Billy of San Francisco. There are 7 great-nieces and nephews and one great-great niece.
A memorial service will be held for Mr. Banes on Saturday, July 9th at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home in Houston. Visitation will begin at 10AM followed by the memorial service at 11AM. Mr. Banes was a member of Lindale Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Lindale Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice in memory of Mr. Banes.
