

James Halvorsen, Sr., age 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. He was born on August 25, 1938, in Houston, TX, to the late Oscar B Halvorsen and Maria De Jesus Murguia. He is preceded in death by his siblings Bernardo, Louis, Oscar, Mike, Mercedes, and Concepcion.
On January 9, 1966, he married Angelita Halvorsen-Garcia in General Bravo, Nuevo León. Together, they lovingly raised two children, James Halvorsen, Jr., and Maria Elena Mares-Halvorsen. James dedicated many years of his life to service with the City of Houston, retiring in 2002.
A devout member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Houston, Texas, James was affectionately known as "Big James" for his larger-than-life personality. He brought joy to all around him with his infectious laughter and warm smile. James had a passion for dancing, music, wrestling, and western movies. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
James is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Angelita Halvorsen-Garcia, his children James Halvorsen, Jr., and Maria Elena Mares-Halvorsen, as well as his daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A visitation for James will be held Wednesday, July 3, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at ForestPark Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale, Houston, TX 77023. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, July 3 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale with burial immediately following .
