James Vandeveer Hempel devoted son, father, and grandfather, left this earthy life for the next suddenly on Sunday, Sept.3, 2023, in Houston, Texas. James was born August 29, 1961 in Houston, Texas, to James E. Hempel and Judith Ann Sloan.
James attended Smiley and Humble High Schools, and graduated from Lone Star Community College with degrees in both accounting, and computer programming. After graduation, he worked as a computer programmer. It is with a deep sense of sorrow and loss that his family says goodbye to James, a kind, caring, gentle soul who loved nature, enjoyed camping out, and mining for gold. He found the solitude of the woods relaxing, peaceful, and rejuvenating. He loved playing the guitar with the light of his life, his only
grandchild. He was the caregiver for his grandmother for six years.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Hempel, grandparents, Gus Hempel and Doris Aufterheider and grandparents, Dr. C. V. Sloan and Nancy L. Rabon. He is survived by his mother, Judith Hempel, brothers,Edward Hempel and Jason Hempel and wife Christy, daughters, Brittney Hempel and Melinda Logan and husband Jimmy, one grandchild Kamryn S. Hempel-Montejano, two nephews,Joshua Hempel, and wife, and Ryan Hempel and by step-daughter Leslie Douglas and husband, Devin, numerous cousins and friends.
You are invited to a celebration his life. Visitation on 16 Sept. 2023 at 10AM at Forest Park Lawndale Colonial Chapel followed by services at 11AM followed by interment at 12 Noon at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home and Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale St., Houston, Texas 77032
