James A. McClain, age 83 passed away on Monday June 1, 2020. James was born May 9, 1937 in Crockett, Texas. James graduated from Reagan High School where he met his wife Betty in English class; they were married in 1957 and had 41 wonderful years together. James was a long time resident of Oak Forest and a member at Oak's Presbyterian Church. He had an unwavering faith in God and served as an elder in the church from the age of 28. He retired from Ross Hill Controls in 1999 and enjoyed many hobbies and interests. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and shooting. He earned several awards for marksmanship with the Galveston County Shooting Club and for casting with the Houston Anglers Club. He also had a passion for armature radio and was the founding member of the Oak Forest Amateur Radio Club. James was a long time member of the Oak Forest Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star and he had received the status of Master Mason in 1981. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve 1955-1958.
James was well loved and thought highly of by his family and friends. He will be sorely missed but it is comforting to know that he is now resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus.
James is survived by his son Robert McClain and his wife Lisa; brother Nathan McClain; granddaughter Nicole Cheyenne-Dawn. James was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years Betty Faye McClain and daughter Dawn McClain. A visitation for James will be held Friday, June 5, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd, Houston, Texas 77008. A funeral service will occur Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 12:30 PM, Committal service will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Ave., Houston, Texas 77023.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Shriner's Hospital of Houston.
