James Rea Nowlin, age 74, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 11, 2017 surrounded by his close family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved family, reading and fishing. He never met a stranger and had either a kind or witty response to all. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2917 for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Noveline Nowlin; and sister, Susan Wade. Survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Ann Poncio Nowlin; daughter, Melissa Gardner and husband Kevin; grandsons, Trey and James Gardner; sister, Sandra Ellis and husband Jim; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 17, 2017 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, Texas 77060 with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3617 Milam St., Houston, Texas 77002. Rite of Committal will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
