Raised as an Army brat, James spent formative years in Alaska and Germany before returning stateside to Texas—experiences that helped shape the steady strength and resilience that so many came to rely on. In every season of life, he carried himself with courage, a calm presence, and an honest, thoughtful way of moving through the world.
For ten years, James worked as a welder, building a reputation for hard work, skill, and integrity. He later became a shop supervisor at Grimes Industrial, where he felt he had finally found his career home. Those who worked alongside him knew they could count on his fairness, his wisdom, and the kind of leadership that comes from doing the work and caring about the people doing it.
James met Lymaris Robinson in 2008. They married on May 26, 2010, and shared 18 years together—years marked by devotion, loyalty, and a love that held fast through life’s hardships. Together they raised three daughters, Thalia Rivera, Mari Rivera, and Ariana Salinas. James was also raising his niece Gabriella, and had his nephew Jalen and cousin Renard with them—always making room, always making sure the people he loved were cared for, protected, and truly at home.
A man with a generous spirit and a kind heart, James was known for opening his doors whenever someone needed help. He had a gift for making people feel welcomed and looked after, and he took pride in ensuring everyone around him was well fed and taken care of. His humor could lighten a room, and his faithful, family-centered way of loving left a lasting imprint on everyone fortunate enough to truly know him.
James enjoyed collecting sneakers and hats, watching true crime shows, and cooking. He especially enjoyed playing Puerto Rican dominoes with his in-laws—simple moments that became cherished memories. He also loved playing football when he was younger, and he shared a close relationship with his mother, who he loved dearly.
James valued loyalty deeply, and one of the enduring examples of that was his 21-year friendship with Rodrick Sherrod, a bond so strong it became brotherhood. In the way he lived—steadfast, compassionate, and dependable—James inspired others to be better, to be more thoughtful, and to keep their word. His guiding reminder, “Be a man of your word,” reflected the principles he lived by. And to his wife, his enduring promise was simple and true: “It’s me and you baby!”
James is survived by his wife, Lymaris Robinson; his daughters, Thalia Rivera, Mari Rivera (Vincent), and Ariana Salinas; his mother, Sharonda Francis Perow (Kenney); his father, Monroe Robinson III (Renee); his sisters, Shanobia Scott (Courtney) and Rayanna Robinson; his parents-in-law, Esteban Rivera (Maria); his brother-in-law, Steven Rivera (Milly); his nieces, Aamori, Ka'liah, Gabriella, Amaya, Imani, and Mia; and his nephews, Jalen, Kayden, Zyion, and Orion.
