Gertie Flint & John Thomas. He died at home in Houston, Texas Friday, January 8,2A21, after a
progressive decline due to Lewy Body Dementia.
Jim graduated from Madisonville High School in 1953 and was hired by Schlumberger Well
Services in Houston. Schlumberger allowed him a leave of absence to join the US Air Force
from 1955-1958. The USAF taught him computer skills which he brought back to Schlumberger
working in their Computer Accounting section until his retirement in September 1986.
In September 2009, he was inspired to convert to Catholicism. He went to St Michael the
Archangel Catholic Church the following day & signed on to take lessons, and on Easter Sunday,
April 10, 2010, proudly became a member of the Catholic Church. His friend & sponsor, Lyn
Salerno, was at his side.
He married Mary Ellen Waters on June 2,1962. He is survived by his wife, and their two sons,
John William Thomas (Kathy Sellmeyer), and Steven Wayne Thomas. He thoroughly enjoyed
being PaPa to five grandchildren: Danielle Marie (Al) Eidam, Whitney Rian (Eric) Bentley,
Trevor Scott Thomas, Martha Caroline (Terry) Stevens, and U. S. Army Specialist 4 Travis
James Thomas. He is also survived by Great-Grandchildren Mary Eidam, Helena Bentley,
Joanna Stevens, Sean Bentley, Alyssa Bentley, and Evelyn Stevens, and new Baby Stevens due
in April.
Jim is also survived by three sisters, Ouida Maude Spivey, Johnnie Ruth Willhite, and Bettie Kay
Chouinard. He also leaves many nieces, nephews & great-nieces & great-nephews. Jim was
predeceased by his Brother, Fred Thomas and his sister, Retha Miller.
We are especially grateful to Jim's caregiver for over two years, Alesia Brown. Her devotion to
Jim's well-being was never-wavering & she was a true blessing to Jim and his family.
