Jarrell Eugene Beard

September 14, 1949November 7, 2017

Jarrell E. Beard, 68, passed away Tuesday, November 7th, 2017. He was born September 14, 1949 and grew up on the northside of Houston. After graduating from Sam Houston High School in 1968, he joined the Houston Fire Department in 1969. He proudly served HFD for 33 years, 3 months, and 3 days and retired as a senior inspector. He was a loving husband, father and his most recent and cherished role was that of proud grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Ruth Beard; brother, Darrell Wayne Beard; and nephew, Wesley Beard. Survived by his wife of 40 years, Camillia Beard; his daughters Jennifer Gunnels and husband Travis and Alissa Beard and fiance Larry Walker; grandchildren Jared and Lauren Gunnels; brother, Wendell Ray Beard; sisters, Sandra Harker and husband Ken and Sharon Divin and husband Leon; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jarrell was a passionate teller of stories and loved to talk to everyone. He never met a stranger, had a witty sense of humor, and loved visiting with old and new friends. Jarrell and his brothers had a knack for fixing things, especially old vehicles. Jarrell always had a project he was working on. He loved the outdoors, and spent many years fishing and hunting in Leon County. So much so, he and Camillia moved to “the farm” in Marquez, Texas after they retired.

In Jarrell’s life, his most joyful relationship was with his grandchildren. Being a PawPaw was what brought him a never ending source of happiness. He would light up every time he saw his grandchildren and loved to spoil them.

Visitation will be held at 4 p.m. for family, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, November 13th at Earthman Resthaven. The Celebration of Life Funeral will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2017 in the Chapel of Earthman Resthaven. Interment will follow at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.

Our family's heart aches at the loss of this fine man. We will treasure the good times and all the memories made through the years. He will live on forever in our hearts. Jennifer & Alissa I am very sorry for your loss. Everything he did, he did for you two girls. He loved you both unconditionally. And Jared and Lauren were the twinkle in his eye. May God rest his weary soul. He will truly be missed.

Aunt Camille, Jennifer, and Alissa,
We are so sorry for your loss and wish we could be there for the memorial service. There is no one like Uncle Jarrell, and I am going to miss his laughter and love of life. He loved all of you and those grandkids more than anything. He will be missed.

Rest In Peace Brother. I wish we could've met at a few car shows but, I bet there are some cool old cars in Heaven. Prayers for your family.

My sympathy to the Beard family. Jarrell and I were good friends in high school, and kept in touch thru Facebook. So sad to hear of his passing. God has gained another firefighter and Northsider.

Sorry for your loss and heaven just got a great northsider. I knew him as Sam Houston and he was a great person. Blessings on the family.

Was a great friend growing up, lost contact when I moved from Houston. He will always be missed. IHe called me on 10/25 and left VM, I did not return his call which haunts me. I will see him in the future and renew old times, life is too short and not fair. You will be missed.
