Jean Thomas Dixon, 90, passed away peacefully at her home on April 23, 2018. Jean was born in Galveston, Texas, on March 21, 1928, to Mary Ocie King and Forrest B. Thomas. Jean is predeceased by her husband, Mike Dixon; her parents, Forrest and Ocie Thomas; sister, Patricia Virginia Stewart; brother, Benjamin Thomas; and nephew, Dr. Benny Thomas. Left behind to cherish her memory are brother-in-law Thomas Kerr Stewart of Sugar Land; nephew Andy Stewart, wife Jean, and daughter Caitlin, of Sugar Land; nephew Steve Stewart, wife Patty and stepdaughters Gabrielle and Adrienne, of Sugar Land; nephew Randy Thomas and wife Judy, of Houston; and niece Lyn Stewart of Sugar Land, along with a myriad of loved ones and dear friends, including several hundred Houston-area runners and triathletes -- especially the members of Fort Bend Fit.
Jean Thomas Dixon was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston, where she was a part of the 1943 city volleyball championship team. She then went on to receive her Associate’s Degree at the University of Houston. She was an executive secretary for Houston Lighting & Power before joining Texas Instruments, where she spent decades as a purchasing agent before eventually retiring so that she could tend to the health needs of both her beloved, aging mother and her true love – her husband, a cancer patient.
She spent her golden years doing whatever was needed for her family – always there for them, such as helping her nephew Andy with his production of races and triathlons. She also was a genuine animal lover and adored her own cherished pets, Snuggles and Callie. She enjoyed working daily in her beautiful garden and travelling anywhere, at any opportunity.
“Work hard, but make sure you find time to have fun in this life,” she was fond of telling family and friends. Jean Dixon accomplished both.
A memorial service for Jean will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Angels located in the cemetery of Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston.
Honorary pallbearers include nephews J.R. Thomas, Michael Thomas, and “adopted” nephews Brian Watson, Carlos Franco, Ronn Willard, Jules Loth, and David Rodriguez.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Bel Inizio, 7710 Del Rey, Houston, TX, 77071.
