Jeronia Rumania Roberts was born on August 4, 1949 to Jerome & Linetta Butler in Atlanta, GA. She was the second of four children. She graduated from Harper High School in 1967, and later graduated from Albany State University in 1971 where she was initiated into the Delta Rho Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in 1971.
On May 29, 1977, Jeronia gave birth to her son Stephen Roberts while living in California. In California, she was a Music and Choir teacher. She felt God’s calling to move to Houston. After her move, she got an invitation to visit a single’s bible study at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church where she met her future husband. She always told the story the same way of how they met. “I was about to leave when I glanced across the room and noticed Leslie. He was leaning against the wall with his legs crossed. I said to myself, “Whoa! He’s a looker.” And the rest is history. On June 5, 1982, she married the love of her life, Leslie Roberts, with whom she was married 40 years until her death. On September 12, 1984, Jeronia gave birth to her daughter Kathryn Roberts in Houston, TX. Throughout her life in Houston, she was employed by Texas Commerce as a Loan Processor, Sweetwater Christian School as a School Teacher, Hoffman Middle School (Aldine ISD) as a Special Needs Teacher, Paraprofessional, and Librarian Aide. She retired in 2012 from Shotwell Middle School in the Aldine School District.
Once retired, she dove headfirst into decorating and creating memory videos. Her Business, More Than Just a Slide Show, went on to develop and create over 40 special occasion videos for family, friends, and clients. MTJASS wasn’t her only business, within her lifetime, Jeronia along with her husband Leslie created multiple businesses the most successful being a Daycare. Jeronia always joked that Leslie had no idea what he was getting himself into when he married her. “When we got married, I yelled All Aboard! As soon as he had one foot on the train, it took off! Weeeeeee!”
During her free time, she was a member of the Prairie View Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. After being reclaimed, she quickly became a favorite Delta Dear by always bringing Sorors food like spaghetti, and Texas Tea (Crack Tea). When reminiscing about her first few meetings, she would always talk about “The Four Ds-Donna, Djuana, Donetta, Denise,……..and Terri!” During her time in the chapter, she also got to see her daughter Kathryn Roberts become her Legacy by being inducted into the sorority and chapter that she loved. They enjoyed chapter meetings, outings, and serving together until her passing.
Jeronia was a devoted and loving Sister, Soror, Wife, and Mother. She leaves behind: Leslie Roberts (Husband), Stephen, Kathryn, & Renae Roberts (Children & Daughter-In-Law), Ellis Hence (Momma Son #2), Sandra Penn (Sister), Richard Butler (Brother), Jerome Nick Penn (Nephew), Jonathan Butler (Nephew), Anthony Milligan, Sharon Breedlove, Tasha Trahan (Nephew & Nieces) and a host of Grand Nephews, Nieces and Friends.
