Jerry was born on November 7, 1951 in St. Louis, MO. He was the eldest of two children of William and Lillian (Lobeck) Akers. After graduating from Westbury High School in Houston, Texas in 1970 he attended Sam Houston State University where he made many lifelong friendships. He met and married his devoted wife, Rosalyn, in 1976, and they went on to have three beautiful children. He then proceeded to enjoy a prosperous 30 year career in the natural gas business. He engaged in various ventures and partnerships throughout his professional life, culminating in the ownership of Mustang Energy from which he retired in 2002.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, William W. Akers and Lillian (Lobeck) Akers. He is survived by his wife, Rosalyn E. Akers, his sister Karen (Akers) Salazar, his children and their spouses, Elissa (Akers) Vogelpohl and her husband James Vogelpohl; Lindsay (Akers) Tomte and her husband Raymond Tomte; Matthew W. Akers and his wife Martha Akers; his grandchildren, Kyra Huddleston, Conner Huddleston, Carson Vogelpohl, Wyatt Vogelpohl, and Ruby Tomte; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members.
Visitation will be 10:00 am on Thursday, May 26 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, where services will begin at 11:00 am. Following a brief reception, graveside services will be at 1:30 pm in Woodlawn Garden of Memories.
