Jerry Herbert born on October 17, 1932 to John Joseph (Jack) Clark and Ramona Nadine Meeker Clark in Wichita, Kansas died in Cypress, Texas on March 20, 2022. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Johnny.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering from the University of Kansas. He then reached the rank of Captain in the United States Air Force and flew refueling planes. He went on to earn a Master of Science from the University of Colorado. He made a career in the oil and gas industry and was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. His career was also his passion. His children know this very well because on family vacations, he would pull over at every rock outcrop to discuss the geological formation and look for fossils.
Living a life of service to the Lord was important to him, and throughout the years he served the church in many ways, including volunteering for community service organizations. He was always a member of the chancel choir in any church he attended, and he continued singing in the choir until his physical body decided it was time to quit. He also loved singing in barbershop quartets.
He enjoyed time with family and friends and loved playing bridge and attending social events. He lived life to the fullest, from mountain climbing to singing at Carnegie Hall. He made such an impact on everyone who knew him. His family was the part of life he cherished most. He enjoyed having his children and grandchildren around him more than anything. Family celebrations and holidays were always a big, fun-filled time.
He is survived by his wife, Henrietta (Polly) Clark of Cypress, Texas, the children of his combined family, Deborah Scott, Amy Mery and husband David, Laura Clark, Christy Lewis and husband Justin, John Clark, III, Kevin O’Farrell and wife Glenda, and Lisa Phillips and husband Ken, sister Janet Clark, nephews Robert Smith and wife Joelle, and Stephen Smith and wife Gretchen, and a bounty of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at Cypress United Methodist Church, 13403 Cypress North Houston Rd., Cypress, TX 77429.
