March 12, 1972 – April 16, 2026
Jerry Lee Hanley III lived a life rich in imagination, connection, and adventure—a man whose presence could fill a room and whose stories could transport you to another world. His greatest passion found its home with Hanlon-Lees Action Theater, where he proudly served as Head Squire and Master of Arms. This year would have marked his 23rd season with the company—a testament to his unwavering dedication, talent, and love for the craft. There, Jerry didn’t just perform—he became legend, blending skill, humor, and heart into every moment.
Known for his playful nature, Jerry was a master at “stirring the pot” and a keeper of secrets, always bringing laughter and intrigue to those around him. He cherished time with his family and lifelong friends, valuing every shared memory and moment of connection.
Jerry had a deep love for collectibles, anime, and games, but perhaps nothing defined him more than his boundless curiosity. He devoured books of all kinds, driven by a passion for knowledge and a desire to understand the world in all its complexity. His storytelling spirit and thirst for adventure made every conversation meaningful and every friendship unforgettable.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Jessica Chesshir; his sons, Jerry John Wesley Hanley IV and Raistlin Kaine Hanley; his mother, Sarah Coffey; and his stepmother, Joy Mitcham. He also leaves behind a large and loving extended family, including brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a vast circle of friends—his Renaissance Faire family and community, and countless others whose lives he touched.
Jerry’s spirit will forever remain a guiding light, inspiring those who knew him to live with curiosity, kindness, and authenticity. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and the enduring reminder to simply be a better human.
As beautifully expressed in his favorite book, The Last Unicorn:
“There are no happy endings because nothing ever ends.”
And so, Jerry’s story continues—in every life he shaped, every heart he warmed, and every tale that will be told in his honor for years to come.*
