Jerry was a popular student and a talented athlete at Seagoville High School, excelling in both football and baseball, and graduated in 1964. He then attended Henderson Community Junior College, where he studied printing. To help pay for his schooling, Jerry sold life insurance. Additionally, he showcased his musical talent by playing bass guitar in a band called The Shauntells.
After college, Jerry married Vicky Preston, and together they had four children: Jeremy, Jason, Josh, and Jamie. In a later marriage to Hope Roby, he became a stepfather to Dolly and Dawson Roby. His final marriage blessed him with another son, Jacob Wells.
Jerry was known for his friendly nature; he never met a stranger and people instantly liked him. He worked in the auto body shop business for years, learning how to manage and run a successful business. After working for someone else for many years, Jerry decided to become his own boss and entrepreneur. He ventured into the oilfield industry and teamed up with his long-term partner, Bill Daniels. Together, they started JBL Plant Services, which offered various services including mowing pipeline rights-of-way and herbicide application. Jerry also helped his friends and family by offering them jobs when times were tough, and they needed help.
This career suited Jerry well, as he loved the outdoors and fishing. Jerry was a country boy who just happened to live in the big city, and this is why he loved his job and the appeal of operating heavy equipment and tractors. It brought out the "I can fix anything with duct tape and baling wire" ingenuity he was famous for.
Jerry is survived by 4 of his 5 children: Jason, Josh, Jamie, and Jacob, and Jeromy who he lost almost 2 years ago, twelve grandchildren whom he loved very much. He is also survived by his niece, Linda Hernandez, who was like a sister to him. his business partner of 30 years, Bill Daniels, and their long-time friend and employee, Miguel Pecero.
Jerry's legacy of kindness, hard work, and ingenuity will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.
