Born in Linden, New Jersey, Joann was the youngest daughter of Italian immigrants. Her heritage was a source of great pride, and she carried the values of faith, family, and a strong work ethic throughout her life—traits she successfully passed down to her children and grandchildren.
A resident of Houston since 1970, Joann was a active member of the community and her parish. She was a loyal member of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church for 55 years, where she served in the Altar Society. Her professional life was marked by diligence and skill; she worked as a bookkeeper, legal secretary, and eventually as an assistant compliance officer for First Interstate Bank. Outside of work, she also dedicated her time as a Brownie and Cub Scout leader.
Joann was truly unique in her ability to nurture. Known for her constant smile and genuine interest in others, she had a rare gift for making people feel seen and heard. She was fiercely loyal and lived her life as a caretaker of both her family and her many social circles, including the Red Hat Society.
Joann is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Stanley Zimmer. Her legacy continues through her daughter, Natalie Bass, and husband David of Houston; her son, Vincent Zimmer, and wife Jan of Seattle, WA; and her cherished grandchildren: Preston, Courtney, Alexandra, and Zoe. She also leaves behind her niece, Phyllis Penn of Florida.
She was a beloved soul who touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew her.
