

Joe J. Bernal, Sr., age 72, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017. Born in Victoria, Texas, he served his country honorably with the Army, and worked for Fleming Foods for many years. He was preceded in death by son, Joseph John “Jody” Bernal, Jr.; parents, Pedro and Francisca Bernal; brothers, Jesse Bernal and Ysidro Bernal; sisters, Lilly Hubner and Pauline Bernal; and several nieces and nephews. Survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Flora Bernal; sons, Marcus Bernal, J. Adam Bernal and wife Nicki, and Peter Bernal and wife Ellen; granddaughter, Zoe “Weezie” Bernal; step grandson, Zachery Silva; sisters, Frances Vasquez and husband Jesse, Clara Garcia, and Mickey Garcia and husband Joe; brothers, Mike Bernal, Sr. and wife Olivia and Pete Bernal and wife Dolly; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at St. Matthew the Evangelist Catholic Church, 9915 Hollister, Houston, Texas 77040, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., the next morning, Wednesday, February 22, 2017 also at St. Matthew the Evangelist Church. Rite of Committal will follow at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery. The family would like to thank the Willowbrook Methodist Hospital Doctors and Nurses for their special care of Joe; and to thank family and friends for their prayers and support.
