John David Gunstream

John David Gunstream passed away at his home on September 1, 2019 in Houston, Texas. He was born July 9, 1970 in Orange, Texas and preceded in death by his father Jack W. Gunstream, sister Betty Gunstream Wilson and father-in-law Wade H. Hudson. Survived by his wife Beverly Hudson Gunstream and children Taylor K. Moore (husband Jacob), Nathan B. Weaver (wife Michelle) and Andrew W. Gunstream. He also has two grandchildren Hayden R. Weaver and another on the way. Also survived by his mother Shirley Owens and siblings Cheryl Bowie, Rhonda Shaffer, Valerie Loewer and Joanna Hambrick along with numerous nieces and nephews. Graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a Masters in Biology with a specialization in Neuroscience. John’s doctoral graduate work at The University of Texas Medical School included sensory neuron and stem cell research and was authored and cited in over 130 publications. During his graduate years John taught at Brandeis University in Boston, Massachusetts. He also enjoyed various part time teaching roles at Trinity Klein Lutheran School in Spring, Texas and Houston Community College. The remaining twenty-two years of his life were spent working alongside his wife Beverly in their third-generation business, Hudson License Service in Houston, Texas. John was a passionate Longhorn, Astros fan, and progressive rock enthusiast continuously writing reviews of music online that has been shared worldwide. From coaching little league baseball, to countless hours tutoring and mentoring his kids and boundless others, John was known for selfless generosity to everyone around him—including local blood drives. John worshiped at North Orange Baptist, Orange TX, Trinity Lutheran Church Downtown, Houston TX, and St. John Lutheran Church, Cypress TX. Friends and Family are welcome to join us at his Celebration of Life Service that will be held at Heights Funeral Home located at 1317 Heights Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77008 on Friday, September 6th at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 5th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the many Doctors, nurses and staff at Houston Methodist Hospital and special thanks to Dr. Michael Campbell, Dr. Sachin P. Patel, and Carrie Hayes, PA, whose care for John showed compassion beyond compare.
