

John was born in Orange, Texas to John Amos Thomisee and Mary Clark Thomisee. He was one of four children. John grew up in Pasadena, Texas and attended Pasadena High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Japan. He served in the Army from 1955 to 1958.
After returning home, John went to work for a steamship company where he met his wife-to-be, Dorothy Pizzo. They were married on August 1, 1959. They had two children, Deborah and Johnny. They resided in Houston until 1980 and then moved to Sugar Land, Texas. In 2000, they relocated to Richmond, Texas.
John had several different employers during his career. He worked for several import companies and steel companies before starting his own steel import business, ACT Steel, Inc., in 1976. The business was very successful, and John retired in 1996. The company is still in business today almost 50 years later.
John is preceded in death by his parents, John Amos Thomisee and Mary Clark Thomisee, his sisters, Kathleen Thomisee Merced and Delores Thomisee Miller. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Thomisee, his sister Edith Thomisee Dees, his children Deborah Thomisee Meisgeier and her husband Steve, his son Johnny Thomisee and his wife Donna, his grandchildren, Nikki Long and her husband Tim, Jarrod Thomisee and his wife Michelle, Angela Thomisee, Christopher Meisgeier, John Meisgeier, and his great-grandchild, Ellie Long, as well as several nieces and nephews.
John was a very active and devoted Lutheran. He attended Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas for over 30 years. He was an elder and president of the congregation. He attended Fishers of Men Lutheran Church in Sugar Land, Texas for the past several years.
John was avid bowler, and he bowled in two different leagues up until about 3 weeks before he passed. He had many friends in the church as well as fellow bowlers. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to Lutherans for Life or MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
A visitation for John will be held Monday, September 18, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Fishers of Men Lutheran Church, 2011 Austin Pkwy, Sugar Land, TX 77479.
A funeral service will occur Tuesday, September 19, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, Fishers of Men Lutheran Church, 2011 Austin Pkwy, Sugar Land, TX 77479.
A committal service will occur Tuesday, September 19, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023.
