John Edward “Jack” Westbrook Jr. was born on December 5, 1943 in Douglas, Arizona. His family left Arizona a few years later and they settled in Houston, Texas. Jack left this world peacefully the morning of June 1, 2022.
He had a beautiful life, and did his best to make the most of it for himself and for all of his family. Jack met Susan Marie Bryant while attending Reagan High School, and they shared a love that lasted over 60 years. They married in September of 1961 and had three children, Jackie, Jeff and Jill. Jack was loyal, and only held a few different jobs, most of them centered around sales, while he and Susan raised their family. He had a great personality and he was eager to help people, which he found possible as a sales professional. He found himself in the automotive supply business, and went on to own several auto parts stores in Houston, including Harbour Auto Supply. He made many great friends and memories there, and the store was a beloved fixture of the neighborhood. He and Susan loved the beach, and spent as much time as possible on Galveston Island before moving there permanently in 1980. He expanded his dedication to service and people by becoming the mayor of Jamaica Beach. He also joined Rotary International, an organization that focuses on building stronger communities and relationships. He continued in the automotive industry for quite some time, and then, not being one to shy away from a challenge, he and Susan moved to Edisto Island, SC to try something completely different. He flourished there as well, earning multiple awards and becoming a highly respected member of the Wyndham team. While he enjoyed working, he also had many other interests. He and a group of friends rode motorcycles deep down into Mexico several years running. He played golf and participated in the Heights Rats tournaments. Possibly his favorite pastime was spending time on his boat and fishing. Whether it was Galveston Bay or Hackberry, Louisiana he loved being on the water. After retiring Jack checked a few things off of his bucket list, including returning to his birthplace in Douglas and reconnecting with family there.
Jack leaves behind his loving wife Susan; Son Jackie, his wife Parker and granddaughter Julia and her husband Cameron; son Jeff, his wife Christina and children Forbes and Grace; daughter Jill, her husband Kevin and their children Megan, McKenna and Brock. Jack also leaves behind a bevy of friends and extended family that will cherish his memory.
A visitation will be held to honor and remember Jack at Heights Funeral Home at 10:00 AM on Thursday June 30th, followed by a memorial service at 11:00. In lieu of flowers please practice a random act of kindness and help a fellow human. He would like that.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.heightsfuneralhome.com for the Westbrook family.
