Judy C Chaffin

Judy Charlene Chaffin, affectionately known as “Meme” by those who loved her most, gained her angel wings on September 12,2026 at the age of 83. Born on December 5, 1942, in Houston, Texas, she was the only child of Florence and Raymond Lawyer.

Loving and serving Christ was instilled in Judy from an early age. She was baptized and confirmed in Christ in the Lutheran church which she attended and served throughout her younger life.

In her later years, she and her life-long friend, Wendy, found a wonderful church family and home at Trinity Assembly of God. In 2005, she dedicated her life and became a devout member of Trinity where she grew in her commitment to Our Lord and Savior. She ran the Food Pantry and participated as a Greeter on Sunday mornings.

Judy learned the value of hard work and rewards at an early age in her parents’ grocery store where she stocked shelves, sacked groceries, and cleaned up. As a young adult, she was employed by a local glass factory and was the only woman at the time to work in the “hot end” which was usually manned by men. Judy found herself in competition to prove her capability and was known to often out-work some of her fellow workers. She left the glass factory to work at U.S. Steel in Baytown and became the foreman of heavy equipment and the railroad. When U.S. Steel closed operations, Judy started a lawn service, mowing and transforming flower gardens. She was artistic and a “Jack of all trades”. She could fix or build just about anything.

Judy was mentor and role-model to many of her cousins. She taught them how to fish, bowl, drive, and work. She was also the instigator of many childhood pranks which got them all in trouble.

Throughout life, Judy learned to “turn lemons into lemonade”. Her greatest enjoyments came from spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great- grandchildren, and in the last few years, she always looked forward to her after church lunches with a stop-off at Dairy Queen to eat ice cream.

Judy is survived by her daughters Tammy Willis and Wendy Chaffin, by three grandchildren, Trenton Willis and wife Haley, Lindsey Willis, and Ashley Chaffin. She was also blessed with five great- grandchildren, Ella, Adalleya, Avery, Evren, and Damien and her life-long friend of 43 years, Wendy Morrison.

Judy’s life was truly a blessing to us all, and her memories are the treasures we now hold for eternity.

The family gives thanks for all the prayers, visits, and care that were given to help Judy through the end-of-life transition. Special thanks to Gail Gibson and Randall and Nancy Sanders for their continuous availability and care for Judy. You were called, and answered, “Here Am I, Lord.”
