Judy Dian Smith was born on December 3, 1947, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Robert and Sophia Spillman. She graduated from Aldine Senior High School in 1967, where she met the love of her life, Richard Smith. The two married on August 15, 1970, and shared 54 wonderful years together.
Judy devoted her life to caring for her family and others. She had a deep love for children and was passionate about her faith. For many years, she was an active member of her church teaching Acteens, leading Sunday School, helping with Vacation Bible School, and working with the Mother's Day Out program. She was a longtime member of Memorial Baptist Church and, more recently, Oakridge Baptist Church. For several years Judy worked for Aldine Independent School District as an administrative assistant and teaching special needs children.
Beyond the church, Judy volunteered tirelessly in every activity her family participated in. She served as a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, a cheer and baseball team mom, and so much more. When she wasn’t volunteering, she welcomed children into her home to care for them, allowing her to remain present with her own family. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren, whom she lovingly cared for from infancy through school-age as well as during holidays and summer vacations.
Judy touched countless lives with her warmth and generosity. She embodied compassion, grace, kindness, and unconditional love. Her legacy lives on in the many people she impacted through her gentle spirit and unwavering devotion to others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Sophia Spillman.
Judy is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Smith; her son, Devin Smith, and his wife Tamara; her daughter, Stacy Peacock, and her husband Brent; her cherished grandsons Wesley, Deegan, Gavin, Riley, and Brody; and her great-granddaughter, Delilah. She is also survived by her sister, Bobbie Lewis; her brother, Robert “Ricky” Spillman, and his wife Linda; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews and many close friends who she considered family.
