Julie Ann Leggett, 64, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026, in Brenham, Texas. Born in Houston on September 25, 1961, to Robert Phillip and Carol Warner Bortner, Julie was the eldest daughter in a family that cherished her warmth, vibrant spirit, and infectious sense of humor.
Always the life of the party, Julie was exceptionally strong and resilient. Though she fought illness for many years, she never allowed it to dim her joy or her passion for living life to the fullest. Julie truly never met a stranger—her open heart and easy conversation meant that anyone who crossed her path left as a friend.
Julie had an enduring passion for adventure, loving nothing more than traveling, discovering fantastic food and drinks, and creating lasting memories with those she loved. She was a dedicated, loving mother to her two daughters, ensuring they always experienced the fullness of life and love. Among her greatest joys was being a grandmother, treasuring every single moment and adventure shared with her grandson.
A proud Texas A&M alumna, Julie earned her degree in Animal Science as a devoted Aggie. A lifelong Catholic, her faith served as a constant source of comfort and strength. Julie’s commitment to community and service shone brightly through her many years as an active Girl Scout leader alongside her daughters, as well as her impactful time shaping young minds as a beloved substitute teacher.
Julie is preceded in death by her mother, Carol Warner Bortner, and her father, Robert Phillip Bortner.
Julie is survived by her daughters, Katrina Steward (and husband Stephen) and Megan Leggett; her cherished grandson, Ethan Steward; her brothers, Blake Bortner (and wife Andie) and Craig Bortner (and wife Rene); and her nieces, Kate Solis and Paige Bortner.
