

Karla Fischer passed peacefully from this life on November 7, 2017. She was born on June 28,1946, to Curtis and Lucille Garnuch who preceded her in death along with her brothers, Norman and Gary. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Clifford Deney and by her late husband, Robert H. (Bob)Fischer.
In 1964, she began her 42-year career at NASA’s Manned Spacecraft Center (renamed
Johnson Space Center (JSC)) in the Office of the Assistant Director of Flight Operations. Her
entire NASA career was primarily spent in the Flight Operations/Mission Operations organizations as well as secretary to the JSC Deputy Director and spanned the Gemini, Apollo, Apollo-Soyuz, Shuttle, and Space Station Programs. From her first years as Secretary in the Flight Operations Directorate to her retirement in 2006 as a Mission Operations Directorate Administrative Assistant, she was most proud of being a team member of the space program. After retirement, she worked on the Sixties Chicks (NASA-Manned Spacecraft Center secretaries from the 1960’s) reunions and as a cancer survivor volunteer with M. D. Anderson Hospital.
She is survived by her nieces, Sheri (and Kevin) Graham, and Brandi Garnuch, nephew Curtis Garnuch, Grand nephews Logan Graham, Ty Graham, and Michael Bizanowicz, Grand nieces Allie Graham, and Brooklyn Bizanowicz, sister-in-law Paulette Garnuch, and many life-long friends. She will be greatly missed and loved forever.
The family would like to thank the numerous physicians, nurses, and staff of Colonial Park Pearland.
Visitation will be on Friday November 10, 2017 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Forest Park Lawndale. Funeral services will be on Saturday November 11, 2017 at 9:00AM in the Grand Chapel at Forest Park Lawndale, interment will follow in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
