Katharine Ware Richards slipped away to meet the love of her life, Dick, on Friday, October 14, 2011. She had been missing him and we know she is most happy at their reunion. She was born in Elizabeth, NJ, on October 20, 1919, but never admitted to being a Yankee. As far as she was concerned, she was a native Texan. After growing up in Houston, she ventured off to Northwestern University in 1937 to earn a degree in Speech, where she fell in love with Dick. They were married on March 6, 1943 and spent 66 years together. She was the consummate volunteer all her life. First with the Red Cross during Dick=s Navy service, and then with Central Presbyterian Church, the Delta Gammas, Holly Hall and the Brazos Presbyterian Homes among others. She loved her family and friends and her happiest moments were spent with them. She always wanted people to gather in her home, not somewhere else! Left to mourn her passing are her daughter Patti and her husband Tom Hogle, her brother Stephen H. Ware and his wife Jean of Corpus Christi, sister-in-law Louise Ware of Houston and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks go to her faithful Caregiver, Diane German, who took such good care of her. Kay will be laid to rest at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery on Friday, October 21st, at 2:00 p.m.
