Kathryn Ann Rowan (68) passed away due to complications from pneumonia and unconfirmed lung cancer. The family is deeply saddened by her sudden death. Kathy was born on May 5, 1953 in Brookings, SD to George and Donna Kick. She uprooted and moved her family from frigid South Dakota to Houston, TX in 1983, where she remained until her death at Memorial Herman Hospital-Southwest on December4, 2021, at around 1:30 pm.
Kathy married Ronald Rowan on October 5th 1974 in Brookings, SD. She was married to Ron for almost 44 years before his death in 2018. She had two children Joseph and Rhonda, who in turn gave her 5 grandchildren. Aaron (12), Haley (11), Wesley (9), Elijah (5) and Taylor (2). She deeply loved her grands.
Kathy lived a very non-complicated life devoted to her family and work. She worked as a project secretary for Jacobs Engineering for 33 years. She loved her grandkids and toward the end of her life made time to come to as many of their games and events as she could. She loved computer games and Disaster movies, especially Independence Day where she wore out several DVD copies due to repeated viewings.
Kathy was also a huge animal lover having owned and loved (and overfed) 4 Brittney Springers and 2 Beagles over the years. She loved watching dog shows and was distraught over the losses of her beloved Newt and Rowdy. Later in life, she became that lady who would feed all the stray cats in her neighborhood. She loved all her fur-babies.
Following a Stroke in 2017, Kathy started attending Houston Aphasia Recovery Center (HARC) where she met many new friends and associates after she was unable to work anymore. The friends she made at HARC have her goals and pushed to have a purpose over the last few of years of her life. She deeply cherished her time at HARC.
Kathy is preceded in death by her husband Ron, niece Valery Kick, her parents and 3 of her 4 siblings. She is survived by her son Joseph, daughter Rhonda, 5 grandchildren and an abundance of friends. We will all miss her more than words can say.
There will be a Memorial Service held in her honor held at the Waltrip Funeral home located at 1415 Campbell Rd in Houston, TX on Saturday, December 11th at 11 AM.
