Kenneth Dwain Black

Kenneth was born in Dew, Texas on February 19, 1929 to Richard L. Black and Irene Boyd Black. He graduated from Teague High School in 1948 and went on to attend Lon Morris College, receiving his Associate of Arts degree in 1950 as well as later receiving his Alumnus Award from the college. He pursued a Bachelor of Science degree at Texas Wesleyan College, graduating in 1952 and later went on to pursue a Master’s degree in administration from Sam Houston State University. It was during his time at Texas Wesleyan that he met the love of his life, his wife, Naomi Ruth Bruner whom he wed on June 14, 1953

After his time at Texas Wesleyan, Kenneth volunteered and served as a missionary for the U.S.-2 Program with the United Methodist Church. He and his wife, Naomi were assigned to the Neighborhood Center of Utica, New York where Kenneth impacted the lives of many students during his mission work as Youth Recreational Director.

Upon leaving Utica, Kenneth returned to his home town of Dew to begin his teaching career at Dew Elementary School where he taught fifth grade students. From there, he moved to Aldine ISD which would prove to be the start of a long and decorated career with many titles beginning with Classroom Teacher and moving on to Assistant Principal, Principal, Director of Elementary Schools, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, and finally, Deputy Superintendent. Kenneth dedicated a total of 46 years both part time and full time to Aldine ISD where he was a beloved mentor to countless individuals including students, teachers, and fellow administrators. Gratitude was shown for his dedication to the district in the year 1989 with the dedication of Kenneth D. Black Elementary School. Proceeding his retirement, he spent several years recruiting and serving as a University Supervisor for student teachers through Sam Houston State University. Not only did Kenneth touch the hearts of many in Aldine ISD, but he was beloved by all who knew him from the members of his church to his community of Hidden Valley. He had many friends who truly became extended family which he carried with him throughout his life. Kenneth also devoted himself entirely to his loving family whom he always put first in every aspect.

Kenneth was a remarkable human being that Christ used to change the lives of many that crossed his path. He will be remembered for his wonderfully comical narratives and story telling, his wit, his friendship and loyalty, the great love he had for his family and extended family, and the light that truly radiated through him to all who knew him.

Kenneth is survived by his loving daughter, Terri Beth Young and husband, Russell, his granddaughter, Sarah Zapata and husband, Carlos, and his great granddaughter, Addison Naomi Zapata. He is preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Ruth Black, his parents, Richard L. Black and Irene Boyd Black, his brothers, Dovard, Jim, Johnny,and Purvis, and his sisters, Ruth and Mary.

His memorial service will be held on July 21, 2026 at Christ Church Methodist at 6363 Research Forest Dr, The Woodlands, TX 77381 at 2:30 pm.

A private graveside service will be held with the family. We are grateful for your support and understanding.
