Lady Earle Poorman was born on October 24, 1927 in Amarillo. She was raised in both San Angelo and Corpus Christi where she met her husband, Don Eugene. After she married, she and Don raised their children in Bishop, TX where she loved being a mother and homemaker. In the early 1970’s, she struck out on her own, moving to Dallas and becoming a businesswoman. She thoroughly enjoyed her work at the Dallas Morning News and in television at local ABC affiliate, WFAA before retiring. She moved to Houston in the late 1990’s to be with her daughter’s family and loved being a member and active volunteer at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in River Oaks. In her final years, she was surrounded by family and close friends and enjoyed visiting with loved ones over a cup of tea, lunch and shopping trips around town, and quietly practicing her faith and spirituality.
Lady Earle is preceded in death by her parents, William Verne and Daisy Earle Thorpe as well as her aunts and uncles, Byron and Velma Thorpe, Sara Thorpe and Harley Puckett, Lillian Umphress and Jack Austin, and Naomi Umphress and Jack Smith.
Lady Earle is survived by children, Larry and Judy Poorman and Susan Poorman and Gary Blackie, as well as her grandchildren, Tate Poorman, Mindy and Isaac White, Taunya Poorman, Buck Dodson and Kevin Purvis, James Henry, Elizabeth Blackie, and Weston and Natalia Blackie. She had twelve great-grandchildren as well.
