

Lamona Faye Cherry, 83, passed away May 24, 2012. Lamona was born in Wells, Texas on July 28, 1928 and moved to Houston, Texas in 1943, where she lived with her parents, brothers and sister until she built her dream home in Damon, Texas in 1978. In Houston, Ms. Cherry studied mechanical engineering at the University of Houston and became a Registered Professional Engineer in 1953, long before women’s lib was a popular topic. She lived in Damon with her sister and brother until 2007, when she and her remaining brother returned to Houston to be closer to supporting relatives. Lamona is preceded in death by her mother and father, Zera and Ollie D. Cherry; her brothers, Harold and Rayburn Cherry; her twin sister, Iona Cherry; and beloved aunt, Zona Bailey. She is survived by her brother, O.D. Cherry, Jr.; nephew Wayne Cherry & wife Ann; niece, Karen Gerault; great nephew Wayne Cherry, Jr. & wife Jeane; great nephew, Jeffrey Cherry; great niece Cherry Stebbins & husband Roger; great niece, Jennifer Gerault; and great, great nephews and niece, Payne, Chase & Hayden Stebbins.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff and care givers at the Hampton at Shadowlake, in Houston, where she lived the last five years of her life. Their care and compassion made those years enjoyable, comfortable and truly happy times for Lamona and they continue to provide exemplary care for her brother, O.D.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 12 pm to 2 pm at Forest Park Lawndale Family Chapel with a funeral service to follow at 2 pm. Burial will be in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale, Houston TX 77023.
