Larry Dean Koenekamp (81), passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at his home in Houston, Texas surround by his family. Larry was born on August 30, 1938 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Earl Charles and Claire Henrietta (Taylor) Koenekamp. At the age of 18 he joined the United States Air Force. During his four years in the Air Force he was stationed in multiple locations. While stationed in Lake Charles, Louisiana he met the love of his life, Marlene Johnson, and they were married two years later in 1960. They lived in South Dakota for two years before moving to Houston, Texas where Larry joined the plumbers Local 68 apprenticeship and remained a plumber for 50 years. During his time as a plumber he spent 2 years in Saudi Arabia designing the plumbing for one of their cities. Larry retired as a Master plumber at the age of 62. Larry is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Claire Koenekamp and his sister Gloria Koenekamp. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marlene Koenekamp, daughters; Diana Underwood and her husband Jeff, and Christy Meduna and her husband Randy, brother, Jimmy Koenekamp, grandchildren; Christopher Bridges and his wife Annie, Marlaina O’ Brien and her husband Josh, and Cade Meduna, great grandchildren; Robert Bridges, Elizabeth Bridges, Claire Bridges, Thomas O’Brien, and May arrival “Baby O’Brien”.
Larry was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He enjoyed reading, playing dominos with his friends, pulling stunts, eating sweets and tinkering in his shop. The thing he loved most of all was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
