Lela Mae Meader

Lela Mae Neal Meader passed away April 10, 2015 in Crockett, Texas. She was born in Mexia, Texas to Tom and Lillie Bell (Praytor) Neal, the youngest of 10 children. Lela graduated from Cleveland High School, Cleveland, TX in 1942 and attended University of Houston. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, Houston and was married to James Ivan Meader, Sr. in 1947. She retired from North Harris County College (now Lonestar College) in 1989, having been on the first employees hired at the college’s inception.

Lela is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Bill, Clifford, Tom, Theresa, Quanah, Bessie, Opal and Lennard. She is also proceeded in death by a baby daughter who was born and died in 1950 and husband, James Ivan Meader, Sr. in 2004.

Lela is survived by son, Jim Meader & wife Roberta of Pattison, Texas; daughter, Darlene Riggs & husband David of Grapeland, Texas as well as 10 grandchildren; Jimmy, Shannon, Darla, Ryan, Melvin, Stephanie, Jared, Michaela, Ashley an Michael and 9 great-grandchildren; James, Kaylee, Hannah, Trey, Molly Mae, Madison, Jase, Tanner and Tyler.

She will be remembered for her kindness, loyalty, and devotion to her beloved husband and family.

Visitation will be from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home with Celebration of Life Funeral Service following at 1:30 pm. Interment will be at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, Houston, Texas with James Meader, Jared Cates, Mike Hardy, Earl Stanfield, Jake Wingate and Wayne Johnson serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are James Meader, IV, Michael Romagus, Jr. and Jimmy Meader.
