The attached picture is of Leroy's namesake...Yorel Quest born to Leroy and his daughter in 1983. Yorel has been part of my family since 1990 and is the Love of My Life! He turned 31 in April and is still riding and munching as much as possible.  Leroy you are truly missed, Yorel and I would have conversations about you and everytime his ears would perk up when your name was mentioned. Thank you and your daughter so much for this truly beautiful lifetime companion and family member!

The Lord brought Leroy to mind today.  Kelly sent me a picture of Yorel, his Arabian horse last week and we thought about Leroy.  He came to mind today again.  It was nice re-visiting this site and reading about his peaceful going home.  Believing for Leroy's loved ones be doing well.

Beloved Leroy lived his life to the fullest. What a great role model for me to be a part of his Christian walk of loving people.  All were welcomed in his heart and home.

The first year is the most difficult, the first autumn without him, the empty chair on the first Thanksgiving, the first Christmas, the first birthday, all the occasions that are the first without our loved one.  But what wonderful memories are held in the annals of our minds/hearts. You could not have picked a better partner to ride with on this roller coaster we call life.              
    It is something very special to see a loved one go on home.  I held the hand of my mother-in-law as her body had started to shut down and we told her it was okay to go.  A tear rolled off one eye, her lips transformed into a Mona Lisa smile and her face took on a radiance, I believe she saw her husband of 70 years beckoning his beloved.  Some people don't live to be 70, they were married 70 years before he passed on. She took her last breaths this side of heaven as she hurried on to the Lord and her husband, mother and sisters.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and innermost feelings.  Leroy was a friend to many, a giver and sower of good deeds.  I was blessed to have crossed paths with Leroy.  Since we had a ranch to keep a horse, he gave me his horse Yorel. Yorel was passed on to Kelly who could give him lots of individual attention; Yorel lives in Kansas.

       It was a year ago yesterday, July 7, 2012, that God saw fit to call my husband home to be with Jesus.  It has been a difficult year for me because we were both retired and spent almost every waking hour with each other.  We held hands everywhere we went and said Grace every time we ate no matter where we were.  Young couples thought we oldsters were cute as we walked through whatever the day would bring hand in hand. Yesterday, his youngest daughter Joy and her daughter Rhonda and I stood hand in hand as we viewed the gravesite.  There was a gentle rain falling as if to say, "Be still and know that I am God," in charge of everything.  I am truly blessed that the love and respect I have for his three children (John, Frances and Joy) and all the grandchildren is returned to this day to me.
My children Ana, Kelly, Jeff and Leo and grandsons and granddaughters adored him.

       A year.  An entire year has passed.  Hospice advised me to tell him it was alright to go and be with Jesus...that I would be fine...not long after that my wonderful husband did just that.  I know he is having a great time in Heaven.  I know that for the last seven months or so, he wedged a gargantuan effort to get well...but, It was time. The doctors were done ..nothing left to do...the family was here ...we all formed a circle around his hospital bed here at home and sang the songs we learned in church so long ago.  Then the nurse said, "Now we need to be very quiet and let him get on with what he has to do.  I promise to wake you all up when it is time." We were awakened and 5AM --and away he went to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ.

I was saddened to hear yesterday of Leroy's death. Although a number of years have passed since I had seen him, I have fond memories of being around him.  Leroy was a Christian man I respected and admired, and he was truly a man who demonstrated integrity and  held strong values. From time to time, he would drive to Beaumont and take Barbara Betenbaugh and I out for lunch. Bill Knoble would join as well at times. I am honored to have known Leroy Washburn. May God grant comfort and peace to your family in the days ahead.

Leroy, what can I say that has not already been said... You treated me like a son, you loved us like a Dad. I feel lucky to have had you in not just my life but the life of MOM...  Everyone said that they had a nickname, I dont know that I did so I will make up my own-Your red headed step-son says THANK YOU for your love. With honor and respect!

My Greatest Granddaddy your in my  daily thoughts and nightly prayers. I know your having the best time ever.

Mr. Washburn was a sincere friend to all of us at Rawson.  His loyalties ran deep and he was held in high esteem by those who knew him.  He always had a smile and was friendly to everyone.  He enjoyed going through the building to hand deliver the paychecks to each person and always gave everyone a "Snickers" candy bar every payday when he handed you your paycheck.  He always had a good "story" to tell you when he visited you on his rounds of the building.  He was proud of being a Christian.  He will be missed by many and I will think of him often.

To the Washburn and extended family, we are sorry for your loss. Our condolence and prayer are to and for you. Beverly, we love you and we loved Leroy.

Remembering Leroy Washburn, a good man... he served his country and fellowmen, he was a veteran... as a VP at Rawson, he officed on  Mahogany Row (as we called that area of the building) when passing him on a hallway he always had a smile and cheerful greeting, he was a friendly man... one of his duties was keeping records of the stock and a savings program, he was intelligent, he was a wise man... I recall he retired in December anticipating traveling with his wife, but it was not to be, she passed away in January, for a little while he was a lonely man... he shared how much one takes for granted, he went to wash his clothes and found he did not know how to operate the washer, his words were sincere, he was a gentle and honest man... his horse Yorel lived at our ranch for awhile then went to a young girl who loved (still loves) it dearly, Leroy was very pleased, he cared about people and animals, he was a loving man... I shared prayer requests and he wrote uplifting words for those in need, he was a compassionate man... he prayed for the needs, he was a Christian man... he wrote to say he remarried, he was a happy man... our days are written and numbered in God's book, we are just passing through in mortal bodies for the Father's purposes, Leroy heard the Father calling; "then shall the dust return to the earth as it was; and the spirit shall return to God who gave it." Eccl.12:7  We who remain can only imagine what his reception to heaven was like, "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him." 1Corinthians 2:8-10  Leroy loved the Lord and was the man of integrity that God wanted him to be. He was a good man.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

Mr.Washburn was a great inspiration to me and I treasured the time we worked together at Rawson and his friendship afterwards.
He was certainly a man of God and I know he is watching over us all.

Our loss is Heavens gain. Mr. Washburn was what we so honestly need more of, a gentle man.  I became friends with his lovely wife, Beverly, a few years ago and Mr. Washburn made be feel very welcomed to their home. His warm, loving, and compassionate spirit never made me feel I was imposing on him although I know I delayed his dinner more than once! I will miss seeing him, sitting so quietly, smiling so sweetly, with kitty cat Samantha purring in his lap. To his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, and many friends I am praying for God's comfort during your grief and joy as you remember and celebrate such a wonderful man and his life.
