Leslie Carol Gill was born May 17, 1945, in Alexandria, Louisiana, to Stanley Sr. and Annie Bell Gill. She accepted Christ at an early age at the Wilton AME Methodist Church in Alexandria. She and her family moved to Houston when she was 7 years old and she attended public schools here. She later attend and graduated Franklin Beauty School. Because Leslie was a people person, she would eventually work as a driver for Southern Pacific Railroad and Metro Lift. Later in life she would become a care giver assisting the sick and elderly. In 1967 she was blessed to give birth to her only son, Stanley Grant Gill III, and in 1985 her grandson, Chant "Tra" Gill was born. These boys became the love of her life and she would often be found talking endlessly about their exploits and their accomplishments. She also has twin granddaughters who were born in 1997, Alexcia and Alecia of whom she also loved dearly. She would eventually join the Little Rock Baptist Church under the leadship of Pastor J. N. Levi. There she would fall under the mentorship of such senior saints as Sis. Annie Lowery, Sis. Nettie Stubblefied, Sis. Alma Selders, Sis. Means and Sis. Myrtle Schoffield. Leslie loved the Lord and loved her church. She was a tireless worker and could often be found cleaning and cooking at the church. She would eventually become the church treasurer and she served on the Usher Board for many years. She would later join the Spring Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Eric Wilson. She would serve there as an usher and mentor to the younger sisters of that church. Leslie was fun to be around. She was always prepared to give whatever was needed, even if it was her last. And her sharp wit and one liners will be truly missed by all that loved her.
